Ever since I was little, I was not given everything that I wanted. I was raised to be content with whatever I had. As children, my sisters and I were taught to not complain about what food would be on top of the table for dinner, or not having the latest phone models in our hands. We didn't go clothes shopping often, and we rarely eat at high-end restaurants outside. We learned to be content with the little things, with simply having what we needed. But truth be told, I struggled with being content. I still do.
You see, contentment is "a state of happiness and satisfaction." I'm not gonna be a saint and say that I was always happy and satisfied with what I had. Because let's face it: As humans, we are never content! We want to upgrade our lifestyle, and it almost always has to do with social media. When our friends post pictures of themselves enjoying their vacation in a luxurious resort, or them getting a new car or house, we start to compare ourselves to them. We frequently tend to feel like what we have isn't enough, and it may even go as far as having the need to want to alter our physical appearance in order to feel more "accepted" in society. I'm not any different, and I once struggled with all that!
Yes, I learned to be content, but I definitely learned it the hard way. Some days, I'm perfectly fine with whatever I have. Other days, I feel so empty and just the total opposite of satisfied. Day by day, I struggle, but still, day by day, I'm being reminded by a certain verse in the Bible that clearly states the right way for us to live our lives.
Right? Isn't it just amazing? "He'll never leave you, He'll never forsake you." Sure, some days will be tough, but He, himself has spoken, and He promised to never leave us! This verse never fails to remind me of the reason that I should be content, so whenever you feel like you're struggling with contentment, think of this verse. Just remind yourself of His promises. Think about His love. He's awesome. So never lose that beautiful smile on your face, because He's always with you! x
